ALGA FARM
Successful Implementation of AlgaFarm Technologies
A case study of a closed vertical farm in Szeged, Hungary
AlgaFarms is proud to announce the successful implementation of its advanced technologies in one of our client's projects. This case study clearly demonstrates how our closed vertical farms help achieve high results in microalgae production.
About the Project
For our client we successfully built a 600 square meter microalgae cultivation plant, located 15 kilometers from Szeged, Hungary. As part of this project, an innovative closed-system photobioreactor was created, allowing algae to be cultivated in controlled conditions.
Advantages of the Closed System
Most of the microalgae biomass on the global market comes from open water sources, where neither the quality nor the quantity of the yield is guaranteed, and the content of active ingredients varies. Algae from open systems can be contaminated with other algae strains, toxic-producing bacteria, fungi, and other pollutants. Our client chose a closed photobioreactor system, which allows for maximizing the benefits of cultivated algae.

The closed system ensures ideal conditions for algae growth, enabling a consistently high level of protein, vitamins, and minerals in the cells. Our system has three reactors on three levels, each operating independently, with a volume of about 5000 liters each. This year, there are plans to expand the capacity by an additional 10,000 liters.
Control and Process Management
The system allows for independent control of nutrient loading, light source, heating, carbon dioxide supply, and centrifugation in each reactor. Currently, the system cultivates Arthrospira Platensis (Spirulina Platensis) algae, but depending on market needs, the algae strain can be flexibly changed — even on a phased basis.
Production Process
After centrifugation, the final product undergoes sublimation drying at low temperatures, preserving all valuable active ingredients of the biomass. The lyophilized powder is then encapsulated and packaged. The production facility is licensed for food (dietary supplement) production and complies with HACCP, ISO 22000:2005, and GMP quality management systems.
This successful case demonstrates the effectiveness and advantages of using AlgaFarm's closed vertical farms. We are proud that our technologies help our clients achieve high results, improve their production processes, and contribute to environmental protection.
